Health Minister Christian Dubé believes that the authorization of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine by Health Canada for children aged 5 to 11 is “good news”. Quebec’s objective is to vaccinate a large part of this clientele by Christmas. But for now, the government does not intend to impose the vaccination passport for children.
“It is not currently in discussions,” said Minister Dubé, who was in Montreal on Friday morning. “We are rather in the message that we want to have as much vaccination as possible,” says Mr. Dubé.
The minister specified that the opinion of the Quebec Immunization Committee must first be obtained before moving forward with the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11. But the campaign can quickly get going afterwards. Children can be vaccinated at school or in vaccination centers. In all, 700,000 young people are targeted by the operation.
On Thursday, Prime Minister François Legault said he was aiming for an 80% vaccination rate among young people in order to be able to lift health measures.
