Vaccination | A booster dose offered to those 70 and over

(Quebec) The Legault government is expanding the administration of a booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine to seniors aged 70 and over. It will be possible to make an appointment on the Clic Santé platform from November 16. The appointment pages will be offered progressively by age group.

At this time, it is not necessary to administer a third dose of vaccine to the population under 70 years of age. This new recommendation comes as Health Canada on Tuesday gave the green light to the administration of a booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine as a booster dose for those 18 and over.

Quebec is relying on a recommendation from the Committee on Immunization of Quebec and from Public Health to vaccinate people 70 and over for the third time.

The Legault government had given the green light to the administration of a third dose of vaccine for seniors living in CHSLDs and private seniors’ residences. The vaccination of this clientele – around 220,000 people – should be completed by the end of November.

Quebec is also preparing to begin vaccinating 5 to 11 year olds when Health Canada approves the vaccine in the country. The government aims to administer a first dose of the vaccine to children by the holidays to complete the vaccination in early 2022.
