Relaxed rules for travelers from UK. People vaccinated against Covid-19 will be authorized from Friday to cross the Channel without having to present a compelling reason, announced Thursday, January 13 the French Minister responsible for Tourism and SMEs, Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne. “Vaccinated people coming from the UK will no longer have to produce a compelling reason”, Lemoyne said on TV5 Monde. “For those who have been vaccinated, the 48-hour isolation period is also being ended (…). We will again be able to travel from the United Kingdom for leisure purposes and go skiing.” in French stations, added the minister.
“The strain is stronger on unvaccinated people who have compelling reasons and cannot come for leisure reasons. The vaccine makes the difference.”, added Lemoyne. “All travelers, vaccinated or not, must initially present a negative test (PCR or antigen test) of less than 24 hours”, said in the wake of the Prime Minister’s office in a press release. “The government has chosen to ease the specific health control measures at the borders which were decided on last December for vaccinated travelers from the United Kingdom”, explained Matignon.
“The British clientele is 15% of the clientele of French ski resorts”, added Lemoyne, while for two years the State has supported tourism stakeholders to the tune of 38 billion euros, victims of the economic consequences of the health crisis. “Before the crisis, there were 90 million international tourists per year in France, today it is rather 45 million”, again recalled the Minister Delegate.
