Vacationers from the municipal campsite of Cerbère threatened with eviction

About thirty holidaymakers, regulars of the municipal campsite of Cerbère, have set up a collective. They denounce unfair methods of the town hallwho sent them letters of formal notice: mobile home owners must leave the premises before September 30, otherwise they will be evicted.

“It’s our little village, we’re a whole bunch of friends” – Henri Jonca, owner of a mobile home

“It’s a little corner of paradise here, you can’t take that away from us”lament Huguette and Patricia, who have been coming to this campsite for more than 30 years, “I won’t go anywhere else, I’ll never find this again”. The site, which gives a breathtaking view of the sea and surrounded by pine forests, is very popular with camping regulars. “old”like Henri Jonca. “It’s our little village at heart, we are a whole group of friends”.

Some standards are not respected according to the town hall

A year and a half ago, they started receiving registered letters telling them that they had to leave the field before September 30, 2022, “We are told that we are occupying the land illegally, which is false. We received authorization from the previous town hall”insists Henry.

The mayor, elected in 2020, wants to qualify: the municipality asks users to bring their properties (caravans and mobile homes) up to new standards rules of procedure. “Some have arranged their accommodation in their own way, there are connections to the wild water network”explains Christian Grau, “which can pose security problems”. On the side of the campers, we dispute: these rules of procedure have never been officially presented to them, “it’s a little too easy to do it like that”replies Henri Leal, another vacationer.

A “bad faith”, which annoys the mayor, “We have been sending letters since 2021, it’s been a year and a half. People who want to stay will have to respond to the internal regulations, if they don’t respond, they will have the choice of being able to leave.”

Private camping projects?

The mayor who also responds to certain rumours: the municipality would have plans to hand over the management of the campsite to a private company, through a public service delegation. “It could be a possibility, but it is not the one we are currently working on. Our project is to improve the campsite and offer a quality service”assures Christian Grau.
