A very long Ascension weekend is coming up in France. In the South, tourism professionals expect an influence almost worthy of the month of August.
On a beach in Grau-du-Roi (Gard), towels and rakes are out. Holidaymakers have chosen to leave during the May holidays, in order to have more vacation days. “That’s five days, and with the bridges, 12 days in total.”, details a man. Tourism professionals are banking on the coming days. For a beachside restaurant, it’s impossible to miss. Activity fell by 40% due to bad weather last month. “We’re just waiting for that, the big bridge next week.”assures Laëtitia Dervaux, the manager.
The campsites are ready
The school holidays are soon coming to an end, but a campsite near Montpellier (Hérault) is already preparing to welcome new tourists during the weekend. For upcoming bridges, the establishment is full. “We don’t have a lot of [place] for next weekend, everything is red“, rejoices Joséphine Van Respaille, the receptionist.
