Uyghur techno or Maloya rock, the Trans Musicales de Rennes 2022 unveil their pioneering program

Faithful to their pioneering DNA, the Trans Musicales de Rennes return more international than ever from December 7 to 11. The first names of the groups expected for this 44th edition, unveiled on Tuesday September 20, will tell you nothing. No stars on the program but 80 groups from all continents, who explore, hybridize, knead, collide musical genres to extract the captivating new sounds of tomorrow.

On the menu, we find Uyghur acid techno (None Sounds, Saturday 10 December), Maloya rock from Réunion (Mouvman Alé, Saturday 10), Colombian psychedelia (Combo Chimbita, Friday 9), Faroese pop rock (Kóboykex , Thursday 8) or even American-Eritrean jazz (Hermon Mehari feat. Faytinga, Friday 9).

There are also cosmopolitan groups, such as Ayom (Friday, December 9) which brings together artists from Brazil, Angola, Italy and Greece for a journey through the music of Portuguese-speaking countries.

The rock group Astereotypie, formed around young autistic people accompanied by their educator and members of the Moriarty group, a project at the heart of a formidable documentary currently in theaters, The positive energy of the godswill shake up the Trans (Thursday, December 8).

Many groups from Rennes (Beau Bandit, Jeanne Bonjour, Mowdee, Sarakiniko, Tago Mago, Vicky Veryno, etc.), whose festival has acclimatized young ears year after year to all sound syncretisms, are also on the program.

It is this mixture that makes the Trans“, rejoiced Tuesday in a press conference Jean-Louis Brossard, artistic director and co-founder of the festival.

Several artists will be in French premiere: the Belgian Jan Verstraeten and his airy and melancholic pop (Friday 9 December), and Duo Ruut (Wednesday 7) and his Estonian zither playing. Australian Grace Cummings (Saturday 10), with her explosive rock and hoarse voice inspired by Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan, and Nana Benz from Togo (Saturday 10), a trio of Togolese women produced by Voodoo band leader Peter Solo Game, will make their European premiere.

The creation planned at L’Aire Libre, which has revealed artists such as Jeanne Added, Benjamin Clémentine or Aloïse Sauvage, gives carte blanche this year for five evenings to a young artist from Saint-Nazaire, Zaho de Sagazan.

The 22-year-old singer and musician mixes deep timbre and deep lyrics, accompanied by her piano and electronic rhythms. His singular blend of “French song à la Brel” and Berlin techno or cold-wave, has already made a strong impression in the first part of the Nantes duo Mansfield Tya at the Trianon in October 2021 in Paris.

Note that like every year, several artists will also rub shoulders with the public of the great west during the Trans Tour which starts on November 10. As for the ticket office, it has been open since Tuesday, September 20.
