Utah club extends Barrett Hayton’s contract for two years

(Salt Lake City) The Utah Hockey Club signed forward Barrett Hayton to a two-year, $5.3 million contract extension on Monday.

Hayton’s contract will therefore have an impact of 2.65 million on the team’s payroll until the end of the 2025-26 season. Hayton was a restricted free agent.

Hayton, 24, was selected fifth overall in the 2018 NHL draft by the Arizona Coyotes. He has 84 points in 209 games since making his NHL debut in 2019.

He was limited to 33 games last season due to injuries, registering just three goals and seven assists.

Utah HC will play its first regular-season game on Oct. 8 when it hosts the Chicago Blackhawks. The Smith Entertainment Group, led by Ryan Smith, purchased the Coyotes this spring and moved the club to Salt Lake City.
