A year and a half that he had not scored. Sadek Deghmache made a run of about fifty meters at the start of the second half which allowed USAP to take the lead (25 to 7). Sadek Deghmache’s last try? It was in May 2021 in the PRO D2 semi-final against Oyonnax.
With a big smile, the scrum-half returned to this crazy race and the try scored : “Oh she was way off the line, damn it (laughs). The main thing was to go to the end and without being caught in the in-goal. I’m happy, it’s been a while since I scored and it’s good for the head.” The finally happy look of the very discreet cétan, who has worn the USAP jersey nearly 130 times, says it all. He played nearly an hour against Lyon after replacing Tom Ecochard (open lip) and provided his best performance in a while.
When you don’t let go, it helps to keep your head above water
Last season, the last months, Sadek Deghmache was in the hard, often replacing and sometimes excluded from the match sheets. Of course, the renewal must be confirmed but for him it was finally a moment of personal satisfaction: “It feels good, there are times in a season or a career that are more or less difficult. These last few weeks have been complicated for me so I had to keep working and trying to stay positive in times like this. When you don’t let go, it can help you get your head above water.”
The scrum-half’s performance also pleased USAP coach David Marty: “Sadek is getting back to his best level and that’s good for the team, that’s important. He had made good comebacks against Clermont, in Bayonne and there he confirms. For him, it’s going in the right direction. We need a maximum of players at their best level and so that’s very good.“
The USAP will also have to confirm this performance and especially to whip until the end to win its maintenance. The last weekends of the year promise to be difficult with matches against Racing, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Montpellier and La Rochelle.
USAP has regained confidence and Sadek Deghmache remains lucid about the future: “Yes, we find confidence, this victory is good for the head, it will allow us to start on a good dynamic. From Monday it will help us to be psychologically well and then we will see. All the teams have a high level, it’s easy to say that we have regained confidence but the reality can quickly be different so here we are happy but we know that the rest will be complicated.“Words that sum up the situation of the USAP but also that of Sadek Deghmache.
