(Washington) John Fetterman, a US senator elected in November in a key midterm election battle after suffering a stroke, was admitted to hospital for depression, his team announced Thursday.
2.05 meter bald colossus known for his inseparable hooded sweatshirt, the Democrat had just returned to his duties after a brief hospitalization due to brief dizziness.
“While John has gone through depressive phases throughout his life, it has become more acute in recent weeks,” his chief of staff said in a statement.
He was admitted to a state-of-the-art military hospital on the outskirts of the capital Washington.
“After examining John, the doctors at Walter Reed (Hospital) let us know that he is receiving the care he needs, and he will soon be himself again,” the statement added.
John Fetterman’s victory in the key state of Pennsylvania in November was emblematic for Joe Biden’s party, ensuring it maintained a Democratic majority in the Senate.
John Fetterman faced Republican Mehmet Oz, long at the helm of a hugely popular medical show.
This campaign was marked by the stroke suffered in May 2022 by Mr. Fetterman, who had reduced his appearances in public.
