(New York) 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova and Cam Norrie withdrew from the U.S. Open due to injury on Friday.
Vondrousova, 18e in the world, missed playing time with a hand injury while Norris, 47e world champion, is struggling with a forearm problem.
Vondrousova, 25, won her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon last year and was a finalist at the French Open in 2019. The Czech also won a silver medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Vondrousova has not played since her first-round loss at the All England Club in July. She became the first woman since 1994 to lose her opening match at Wimbledon the year after winning the title.
Petra Martic will replace Vondrousova in the women’s main draw in New York, while Francisco Comesana will take Norrie’s place on the men’s side for the final major of the year.
The US Open draw will take place next Thursday and the tournament will begin on August 26.
