The US military shot down 12 drones and five missiles fired by Yemen’s Houthi rebels in the Red Sea, the US Middle East Command (Centcom) announced. on (ex-Twitter) Tuesday December 26.

Different military assets, including planes, have “downed 12 attack drones, 3 anti-ship ballistic missiles and 2 cruise missiles in the southern Red Sea, fired by the Houthis”, Centcom said. No injuries or damage to vessels in the area have been reported.

Earlier in the day, the Iran-backed rebel group claimed to have launched a missile at a ship in the Red Sea, and carried out a drone attack towards Israel. The Houthis have multiplied drone attacks on commercial ships since the start of the Israeli offensive on Gaza, saying they are in solidarity with Palestinian Hamas. An international military coalition has been established to better protect commercial ships.
