(Washington) Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in the United States was a little stronger than initially reported in the third quarter, at 2.3%, but remains sharply slower than the previous quarter, according to the third and the latest Commerce Department estimate released Wednesday.
The second estimate put growth at 2.1% for the three months from July to September. The first estimate had put it at 2.2%.
The United States publishes its GDP growth at an annualized rate, which compares with the previous quarter and then projects the development over the entire year at this rate. The calculation method differs depending on the country.
After jumping to 6.7% in the second quarter, thanks in particular to the vaccination campaign, GDP growth slowed in the third quarter.
“A resurgence of COVID-19 cases has resulted in further restrictions and delays in reopening establishments in parts of the country,” curbing consumption, the Commerce Department said.
