US fuel prices | Republicans blame shutdown of Keystone XL project

(Washington) Republicans are resurrecting the Keystone XL pipeline expansion project, dead for just over a year, in a bid to blame President Joe Biden for soaring gas prices.

The controversial cross-border project, canceled by President Biden on his very first day in office, plays a prominent role in a congressional hearing on Capitol Hill.

Former national security adviser HR McMaster said the move was proving costly following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Mr. McMaster told members of the House Energy Committee that the Biden administration’s policies on fossil fuels go against the grain.

He says Mr Biden has shut down a project that would have provided a low-impact way to increase Canada’s oil and gas imports.

The White House has so far refused to confirm a report by the wall street journal that the administration is exploring ways to increase energy imports from north of the border.
