US bridge collapses after being hit by boat

A serious accident occurred overnight from Monday to Tuesday in the city of Baltimore, United States. A huge boat hit the pillar of a bridge. This collision caused the bridge to collapse. At least one person has died. THE Ace explain to you what happened.

The accident happened around 1:30 a.m. The huge ship Dalí, which was carrying containers, had just left the port of Baltimore City when an electrical outage occurred on board. The boat began to drift and struck one of the pillars of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which collapsed within seconds.

Fortunately, the boat’s crew was able to send out an SOS before impact. The authorities were notified and responded by limiting traffic on the bridge. This decision undoubtedly saved several lives.

Unfortunately, there were still vehicles and people on the bridge when the boat hit the pier. The structure quickly collapsed into the water. It is known that workers were working on maintaining the structure during the night. As of Wednesday, as this article was being written, teams were still searching for the six missing workers.

Although this is an accident, and not a criminal act, an investigation is underway. Authorities want to know why the entire bridge was destroyed by the impact of a single pillar.

How are our bridges?

In Canada too, boats carrying large containers of goods are sailing. But I reassure you: this kind of accident could not happen here. The organization that deals with boat traffic on the St. Lawrence River has stated that our bridges are protected to prevent this type of impact and that they are monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
