Joe Biden promises to “bring the Russian economy to its knees”. The American president announced on Tuesday March 8 an embargo on American imports of Russian oil and gas. “We are not going to subsidize Putin’s war“, he said during a speech. “Republicans and Democrats agree: we have to do this”he continued.

“Many of our allies in Europe are unable to follow us on these sanctions. The United States produces more oil than all the countries of Europe combinedexposed the American president. We can take this action when others cannot. But we are coordinating with our partners in Europe to develop long-term strategies to reduce their dependence on Russian energy.”
For its part, the United Kingdom will stop imports of Russian crude and petroleum products by the end of 2022 in response to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, announced on Twitter (in English) Kwasi Kwarteng, British Minister for Business and Energy.
