The United States announced on Monday, July 29, new military aid to Ukraine valued at about $1.7 billion (about 1.6 billion euros) which includes anti-aircraft munitions and artillery shells requested by kyiv. The Defense Department said in a statement that this amount includes $200 million in equipment to be taken from existing U.S. military stocks and $1.5 billion (about 1.4 billion euros) to be ordered from the defense industry.

Washington will supply several types of anti-aircraft munitions, such as Himars rocket launcher munitions, and anti-tank weapons. In a message on social networks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who visited the front in the Kharkiv region (northeast) on Monday, said: “extremely grateful” to Joe Biden, Congress and the American people for their help.

The United States is Ukraine’s primary military supporter in the face of the Russian invasion and has already committed more than $55 billion (around €51 billion) in weapons, ammunition and other aid since the start of the war in February 2022. After long and difficult discussions, the US Congress voted at the end of April for a new envelope of $61 billion (around €56 billion) to help Ukraine militarily and economically, at the request of President Joe Biden.
