“We were very excited to see the European flag displayed on the major monuments”, said Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, Thursday January 6 on France Inter, after the controversy over the presence of the European flag under the Arc de Triomphe, when France took over the presidency of the Council of the European Union.

According to her, “it is important that the presidency has chosen to display the colors of Europe”. “I know that France is very proud of its long history and of its flag which symbolizes it”, she added, believing that “Without France, the European Union would never be as advanced as it is today.”

“I have seen several presidencies and I must say that I am impressed by the ambition and the good preparation of the French presidency”, continued Ursula von der Leyen. “The role of a presidency is to find agreements and France has a lot of experience in this area”, she said, thinking to herself “confident” on the fact that “the French presidency will be a success”.
