The Drôme police feared a rough evening for this Halloween night, and had anticipated by providing reinforcements from Lyon and Grenoble. Forty men in all. Since the end of the afternoon, the firefighters have had to intervene fifteen times in Valence, Bourg-les-Valence Romans or even in the Nocaze district of Montélimar. An intervention also in the gendarmerie zone in Loriol. At times the police were forced to filter the interventions of the firefighters. When the situation looked too much like an ambush and there was no immediate risk of the trash fires spreading.
It has become a sad habit during the nights of October 31 to November 1 that some young people set fire to cars and garbage cans and attack firefighters and police officers. One year ago, five young people had been arrested after such violence in Valence
