(Ulaanbaatar) Hundreds of people have had to leave their homes in Mongolia’s capital, Ulaanbaatar, due to unusual flooding that has led authorities to put the city on high alert.
Heavy rains caused rivers to overflow this week in the usually dry region, flooding many homes in Ulaanbaatar.
Residents of Bayanzurkh district living near the Selbe River told AFP they were working to raise a dike to stem the flood.
“The river level reached the top of the dyke last night,” said Delgersaikhan, a 40-year-old resident.
The state-run Montsame news agency reported that many thoroughfares in the Mongolian capital were closed due to flooding.
