In several apartments of a student residence located in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, dead cockroaches were found on the furniture and in the refrigerators. They were requisitioned to house police officers during the Olympic Games. “These were the first staff that we sent to Crous”explains Grégory Joron, UNITÉ general secretary.
Rehousing solutions were proposed and the Crous intervened quickly. The unsanitary conditions of student housing are a recurring problem. In a residence in Essonne, images filmed a few months earlier show mold. The main student union says it is not being listened to. “It is necessary for the police to raise the alarm about the state of the residences so that it is heard”regrets Salomé Hocquard, vice-president of UNEF. In 2023, the government launched a plan to renovate 12,000 student housing units in France.
