Unreleased song by Sinéad O’Connor made public

A previously unreleased song by Sinéad O’Connor has been released almost two months after her death.


Titled The Magdalene Songthe play performed during the final episode of the British series The Woman in the Wallbroadcast last Sunday on the BBC.

According to her producer, David Holmes, the Irish singer-songwriter, who died on July 26 at the age of 56, had given her agreement for the song to be used as part of this series before the start of filming, reports the British daily The Guardian.

The Woman in the Wall shows the impact of the “Convents of the Madeleine” (Magdalene Laundriesin English), institutions run by the Catholic Church in Ireland denounced for having mistreated thousands of girls and young women who stayed there until the mid-1990s.

In the 1980s, when she was a teenager, the singer Nothing Compares 2 U lived there herself after being labeled a “problem child”.
