In Germany, the health situation is deteriorating very sharply as the country is in the midst of political transition and the end of year celebrations are approaching.

It is an unprecedented crisis meeting that was called this afternoon in the presence of Angela Merkel, still officially Chancellor for a week, and her designated successor, Olaf Scholz. Normally, we are in the midst of a period of transition, where we only deal with current affairs, but faced with the health situation, there is an emergency. “Every day counts”, said Angela Merkel. Urgency in particular to put order in the decisions which are being taken at this time by the various regions of the country.

For example, Christmas markets have been canceled almost everywhere, but there are still places where football matches are played without gauges. Regional leaders are calling for the start of school holidays to be brought forward so that schools can be closed. Others ask for compulsory vaccination, or even re-containment for everyone.
