Cybersecurity in mind
With soaring fraud and data theft, cybersecurity is a highly sought-after expertise for employers. After consultation with businesses and public organizations, Polytechnique Montréal opened two specialized courses in the field last September, for the master’s and the DESS. The “Cyber Defense Specialist” course is aimed at people who are primarily interested in the technical aspects, offering them training oriented towards detection and penetration testing problems, as well as threat management and analysis. . For those who wish to work more on the operational management side, the “Strategist” course is more concerned with deployment strategies within the company, crisis management as well as standards and regulations. Those who need refresher training can also register for three certificates: Cyber Investigation, Cyber Fraud and cyber securitythe latter program being offered in English.

Curb two major shortages
The nursing and teaching professions are among those where the shortage is most cruelly felt. The University of Montreal offers two programs to try to remedy this. Since 2021, the qualifying master’s degree in education, a 60-credit program, aims to train people who want to teach in preschool or elementary school. It is intended for holders of a bachelor’s degree who are eligible for graduate studies. According to UdeM, it is therefore a question of “offering a new gateway to access the teaching profession without lowering the requirements” while allowing these new graduates to arrive more quickly on the labor market. Moreover, the new microprogram for the first cycle of integration in nursing sciences is intended to be a sort of summary of the first year of the baccalaureate in nursing sciences. It includes five three-credit courses to be taken online and is intended for students who have already completed 30 credits in the bachelor’s degree, regardless of discipline.
