(San Francisco) The video-sharing platform YouTube has been offering its American users since Wednesday nearly 4,000 episodes of television series accessible for free, an offer financed by targeted advertising.

Hell’s Kitchen, Andromeda, heartland or Midsomer Murders are part of the series currently available on the site.
US-based Internet users can watch them from their web browser, their phone and most connected televisions via the YouTube on TV application.
YouTube is not the first platform to launch this kind of service. Tubi, Peacock, Roku, IMDb TV and other rivals have indeed been offering a similar offer for several months.
But the site, which is part of the Google empire, is counting on its strong popularity in many American households to dominate the competition. According to a study by Nielsen, 135 million people used YouTube in the United States in December using a connected television.
Before this announcement, YouTube already had a catalog of more than 1500 free movies with advertising. “60 seconds chrono” and “The revenge of a blonde” are among the most recent publications.
The platform plans to add a hundred new titles (films and series) every week.
