A green revolution is underway in Texas. Renewable energies are booming, wind and solar power are even more widespread there than in France.

Drilling wells, full oil tanks and a rather non-existent ecological conscience, that was the image of Texas (USA). But today, America’s second most populous state looks like huge solar fields. A cultural and economic revolution that French industrialists have taken advantage of. The Engie group has just inaugurated its largest photovoltaic power plant in America. “There are more and more climate changes and that, they realize it. In Texas, today, there is more wind and solar power than in France“, says Emmanuel Sbravati, vice-president of renewable Engie.

Good economic sense

Now Texas is installing eight gigawatts of additional renewable power each year, the energy equivalent of eight nuclear reactors. This massive take-off of green energy is boosted by a landmark law from President Biden. Texas”simply followed common economic sense“, analyzes Ellen Hughes-Cromwick, an economist specializing in energy issues.
