The “Title 42” device was lifted on Friday, May 12, in the United States. It made it easier for US border guards to deport a number of migrants. Journalist Loïc de la Mornais, live from Texas, explains that it “will be replaced by another article which, in some ways, will be even more restrictive”.

The American device called “Title 42” was lifted on Friday, May 12. “It made it easier for Mexican border guards to deport a certain number of migrants, under anti-Covid health laws”explains journalist Loïc de la Mornais, live from El Paso in Texas (UNITED STATES). “That doesn’t mean it’s open doors for migrants, especially from Mexico. No way”adds the journalist.

“We don’t know if there will be an influx or not”

“This article 42 will be replaced by another article which, in some ways, will be even more restrictive, since migrants will have to request political asylum in one of the countries crossed before, for example, Mexico. And so, if they have not made this request before, here, they risk five years of banning entry into the territory and even years of prison”, specifies Loïc of the Mornais. “So we don’t know if there will be an influx or not”he adds.
