(New York) Canada’s Vasek Pospisil earned his ticket to the second round of qualifying for the U.S. Open on Wednesday with a 7-6 (2), 6-4 win over Sumit Nagal of the U.S. Open. ‘India.

Holder of 132e rank in the world ranking and 26e Qualifying seed Pospisil needed almost two hours to beat 464-ranked Nagale at the ATP. He achieved it with 14 aces.

In the first set, the two players exchanged service breaks in the fourth and fifth games, before protecting their serve until the tiebreaker.
Pospisil entered that opening-set tiebreak with authority, earning three points, two of which came on Nagal’s serve. It was enough to allow him to win this first set.
In the second set, Pospisil got the only break he needed in the third game.
In the second round tomorrow, Pospisil will face Italian Andreas Seppi, who defeated Slovakian Filip Horansky 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.
