United States Open | Halep entrance exit by Snigur

(New York) Romanian Simona Halep, seeded N.7, who remained on a victory at the WTA 1000 in Toronto, was eliminated as soon as she entered the United States Open, beaten 6-2, 0-6 , 6-4 by Ukrainian Daria Snigur (124e World), Monday.

It’s a pretty unexpected underperformance from the former world No.1 (in 2017), crowned at Roland-Garros (2018) and Wimbledon (2019), who seemed to have recorded her return in Ohio front and center a year after dropping out of the Top 10 due to a series of shoulder and thigh injuries.

Her match was like a roller coaster, after losing the first set and winning the second, during which she gave a scathing response without leaving a single game for her rival.

Visibly physically challenged on the Louis-Armstrong court, Halep then let go of her opponent who led 5-1 in the last set, before coming back to 5-4, having erased two match points in the process.

The third was nevertheless the good one for Snigur who will be opposed in the next round to the Polish Magdalena Frech (103e) or the Canadian Rebecca Marino (106e).
