(New York) Canada’s Denis Shapovalov advanced to the third round of the U.S. Open on Thursday, beating Spain’s Roberto Carballes Baena 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 .

The Ontarian had the advantage 5-2 for breaks, in addition to dominating 11-1 for aces.
Baena occupies the 80e rank at the ATP.
Seeded number 19, Shapovalov also ruled the winners, 54-16. This made up for his 49 unforced errors and 13 double faults.
In the next round, he will have in front of him the Russian Andrey Rublev, seeded ninth.
The two men split four-game honors, from 2017 to 2020.
Shapovalov displayed his best outfit in New York in 2020, reaching the quarter-finals.
In women’s doubles, Leylah Fernandez and Daria Saville defeated second seeds Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (5).
In the second round, the Canadian-Australian pair will face Dalma Galfi and Bernarda Pera.
