The moment was great and so was the reward. Not only was the title of the last grand slam of the season at stake, but so was the world number one. Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud could reach ecstasy.

Carlos Alcaraz had the best of his opponent and at 19, he became the youngest player in history to sit at the top of the world rankings.

This final was fiercely contested and the two players arrived on the Arthur Ashe court with enormous confidence. Nevertheless, despite accumulated fatigue, Alcaraz concluded their formidable season with their fifth title of the year.

More details will follow.
