We know Serena Williams’ passion for fashion, and for this most recent outfit, she shone brightly on the courts of Flushing Meadows. The player made a grand entrance into Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday, wearing crystals in her hair, a glittering star-studded jacket, a sparkly train over her skirt and shoes set with 400 diamonds. To create her outfit, Serena Williams was inspired by figure skating competition dresses. And beware, everything has been thought out down to the smallest detail. Designed by Nike, the skirt is made up of six layers in reference to Serena Williams’ six US Open titles, a very symbolic detail for the champion. The black bodice is encrusted with star-shaped crystals and references the New York sky.

“I find it great that an athlete like Serena Williams is inspired by figure skating and adopts the sparkling side of our outfits, which is sometimes criticized for our sport,” said Mathieu Caron, who created the costumes for the Olympic champions. Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir and those of the French couple Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron, in particular. “It’s a great tribute to the aesthetics of figure skating and to the work of all dance and figure skating costume designers. I’m very proud. »

unique style

In addition to being the greatest tennis player of all time, Serena Williams has imposed her style of dress. A true fashion icon, she launched her brand S by Serena in 2019, and her jewelry brand. She has often attended the Met Gala in New York, which is considered the biggest fashion evening of the year, and is often seen alongside her friend, the editor of the American magazine vogue Anna Wintour at fashion shows in Paris, Milan or New York.

On the tennis courts, Serena Williams has been able to innovate with ever more extravagant outfits. Denim miniskirts, leopard or panther print dresses, ballerina tutus or a tight jumpsuit.

“She dared. His looks have not always been a success, but it has always pushed the limits. This latest sparkly outfit, complete with crystals and diamonds, is stunning. It marks the end of a queen’s career, nothing less,” exclaims fashion columnist Lolitta Dandoy.

This outfit was highly anticipated, Serena had revealed a few elements on Instagram before the match. I think there are a lot of women who are going to want to wear this outfit, especially the jacket, even outside the tennis courts.

She adds that Serena Williams’ daughter Olympia wore a starry outfit to match her mother’s and had white pearls in her hair. The same hairdo Serena Williams had in 1999 when she won the US Open, her first Grand Slam, aged 17. “It was either she was wearing pearls or me. I wanted to do it, but I just didn’t have the time,” Serena Williams said after Monday night’s win against Danka Kovinic.

“We saw on Monday evening the evolution of Serena through her daughter. There are always meanings in Serena Williams’ outfits, it’s very sought after, it’s related to her career or even to one of her brands. She’s also a businesswoman,” says Lolitta Dandoy.

Indeed, her black shoes, the Nike Court Flare 2 model, were created in collaboration with Serena Williams Jewerly. There are her initials on the side, the Swoosh is encrusted with diamonds, then, on her laces, there are two solid gold jewels, adorned with 400 hand-set diamonds where it is inscribed “Queen” and “Mama”. .
