Did Oreo manufacturers change the recipe without warning their consumers? In the United States, we don’t joke at all with the amount of cream in the cookie.

Would Oreo manufacturers have chosen to put less cream in the famous little round cookies to counter inflation? 40 billion Oreos are sold every year. “Is the cost of living increasing? Ok, I can’t pay my rent anymore? OK ! But reducing the cream in the Oreos is going too far! ”, protests a consumer in a video. This technique is called “shrinkflation”, it is a practice used by companies which aims to reduce the size of the product rather than lowering its price.

Wary consumers

An American senator investigated, he cannot be definitive about the reduction in the quantity of cream, but he affirms that the size and weight of the packets have decreased. “Even if Oreo has not reduced the quantity of cream, the fact that it is turning into a scandal shows to what extent consumers no longer believe what the big brands say“, says Mark Stiving, founder of the company “Impact Pricing”. At close to 8% last year, inflation is the number one concern for Americans. Oreo sales, despite everything, remain stable.
