Automaker Tesla is issuing another major recall of nearly 200,000 cars in the United States because the rearview camera may not work when the car is in reverse.
The recall covers certain Y, S and X models from the 2023 model year. All are equipped with a 4.0 “Full Self-Driving” computer.
The company says in documents published by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that software instability may prevent the camera image from displaying images when Teslas are in reverse. The agency says this can increase the risk of an accident.
Tesla states in the documents that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries. Owners will be informed of the recall by letter starting March 22.
Tesla began receiving complaints about the problem in late December and decided to issue a recall on Jan. 12, documents show. As of January 22, the company had 81 warranty claims potentially related to the issue.
Last month, Tesla had to recall almost all vehicles sold in the United States, more than two million cars, to update software and correct a problem when using the Autopilot partially autonomous driving system. .
