United States | Guitars of Eric Clapton and Kurt Cobain to be sold at auction

(Gardena) Electric guitars used by rock legends like Kurt Cobain and Eric Clapton will be auctioned next month in the United States, some with an estimated value of two million dollars.

Eric Clapton’s Gibson SG, nicknamed “The Fool”, is strongly associated with the singer’s time with the band Cream, where he produced one of rock’s most distinctive sounds.

Its personalized decoration, in a psychedelic style, makes the instrument one of the most easily recognizable in rock and a symbol of the “Summer of Love”, the counterculture movement of 1967 which marked a generation.

Eric Clapton, whose riffs on songs like Layla Or Sunshine of Your Love earned him a reputation as one of the best guitarists in the world, having started using the instrument during Cream’s first US tour.

Another instrument to be submitted starting next month at auction in Nashville, Tennessee (south): Kurt Cobain’s left-handed Fender Mustang, used during Nirvana’s last concert in Munich.

“We all know Kurt Cobain loved smashing guitars, but the Fender Mustang was his favorite guitar,” said Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien’s Auctions.

The auction will take place at the Hard Rock Café in Nashville from November 16-18. And part of the proceeds from the sale of the two guitars will go to the Kicking the Stigma association, which fights against mental health problems.
