After a period of crisis attributable to the contract for French submarines that Australia broke in favor of the United States, Paris and Washington seem to be taking the path of reconciliation.
A meeting to warm up the coldness of diplomatic relations in recent weeks. Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Anthony Blinken, the head of American diplomacy, met in Paris on Tuesday, October 5 to discuss, in order to plug the breaches that have damaged the diplomatic relations of the two powers. As a reminder, Australia ended up signing a contract linked to the purchase of submarines with the United States, although this was initially to be a Franco-Australian partnership. A snub for France, which had to say goodbye to one of the juiciest construction contracts ever signed in the world.
The US Secretary of State then met with the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron. “We have a history bigger than us, historical commitments (…) Today I have a confidence nourished by history, but we need clarification and re-engagement in order to be able to move forward“, declared in particular Emmanuel Macron.
