United Kingdom | Uber will offer flight booking on its app

(London) The reservation platform for chauffeur-driven vehicles (VTC) and meal deliveries Uber announced on Wednesday that it will launch a feature this summer in the United Kingdom that will allow users to book flights directly in its application.

The United Kingdom will be the first to test this feature, said a spokesperson for the group, which had already launched multimodal journey possibilities on its British application last year.

“Uber already facilitates the first and last leg of many international journeys,” the company said in a statement. This new option “will enable a true door-to-door experience […]all stages of the journey can be managed” from the company’s platform.

Air travel reservations will join a range of modes of transport available on the application across the Channel: boats on the Thames, coach trips or even Eurostar to take the Channel Tunnel.

The new feature will be powered by online travel agent Hopper, Uber said.

The Californian company had announced in early May results and forecasts exceeding expectations in the first quarter, driven by a 40% jump in demand for car trips with drivers.
