(Sydney) World tennis No.1 Iga Swiatek ended in tears on Friday after losing to Jessica Pegula in the semi-finals of the United Cup in Sydney.
The Pole was corrected by her American opponent 6-2, 6-2, in just over an hour, less than two weeks from the Australian Open.
Jessica Pegula put on the pressure from the start by taking the first seven runs, before finishing the first set in 39 minutes and breaking early in the second set to take the victory.
She also gave the advantage to the United States (1-0), in this mixed team tournament.
It’s a big disappointment for Iga Swiatek, who had beaten the American four times in 2022 and was the favorite after a remarkable last season.
