Unibroue celebrates its 30th anniversary

Against all odds, ignoring the dazzling explosion of young Quebec microbreweries, Unibroue is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, an anniversary marked with the blend of innovation and tradition that forged the identity of the brewery born in Chambly in 1992.

At the heart of the festivities surrounding the 30th anniversary of the microbrewery born from the ashes of the Massawippi brewery is an astonishing project where six Quebec glassblower artists were asked to create 30 unique pieces of glassware inspired by five varieties of beers brewed by Unibroue. Nicolas Forlini and Diane Champagnat-Becker designed a glass for the Blanche de Chambly, Dylan Duchet for the Maudite, Gabriel Dubé for the End of the World, David Frigon Lavoie for the Saison Libre and Charlie Larouche Potvin for the Cuvée 30e. A total of 30 glasses were created, they are on sale in virtual auction until October 28 at 1 p.m. The sums collected will be donated to the Maison Simonne-Monet-Chartrand, in Chambly, which helps women who are victims of domestic violence.

The Vintage 30e was also launched during a festive evening organized on Tuesday in Montreal; created by master brewer Jerry Vietz, who is incidentally celebrating his 15th anniversary at Unibroue, this new anniversary brew was concocted from spiced yeast, to which maple syrup was added. The smooth body is said to give off aromas of caramel and milk chocolate, while being supported by a balanced bitterness from the well-roasted beans. A tasting beer that will be on sale everywhere from the beginning of November.

The microbrewery, which has invested heavily in research and development in order to maintain its natural carbonation process in cans, also intends to continue with the launch of new products, already undertaken with the Autre Chose range. In particular, light beers are promised, as well as new Belgian-style brews, a style that still makes the reputation of the brewery founded by André Dion.
