unexpected reunion, 23 years after “Romeo and Juliet”

A week after the special musical comedy offered by the star Academy to its viewers, it’s the turn of Michael Drucker to offer this Sunday, December 24, 2023 a special issue of Roll on Sunday dedicated to the madness of musical comedies. If today they are less numerous and less publicized, those which marked the 2000s remain unforgettable: we inevitably remember the beginnings of Hélène SégaraPatrick Fiori and Garou in Notre Dame de Parisby Christophe Maé and Emmanuel Moire in The sun Kingby Sofia Essaïdi in Cleopatraor even Daniel Lévi in The ten Commandments. But it is another notable duo from the French musical scene which will meet this Sunday on Michel Drucker’s red sofa since the 81-year-old host will bring together Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara, twenty years later Romeo and Juliet.

I have to say that Romeo and Juliet East one of the most bankable and popular French musicals. Created by Gérard Presgurvic, adapted from the eponymous play by William Shakespeare, it was a resounding success, and the titles Aimer, Vérone, and Les Rois du monde, still remain true standards of French song today. The musical was such a success that it was adapted by around twenty other countries, from Belgians to British to Hungarians, Israelis, Mongolians, Romanians, South Koreans, Austrians, Russians, Italians, Mexicans and Slovaks. Twenty-two years after the creation of Romeo and Juliet, adaptations are still in progressnotably by the Poles, the Spanish, the Australians and the Chinese.
