Since Monday September 5, the inhabitants of around thirty municipalities such as Limoges, Montauban or Granville, have been deprived of a municipal swimming pool. The company Vert Marine, which manages its establishments, says it no longer has the means to pay the heating bill.
The aquatic center of Limoges (Haute-Vienne) is closed on Monday September 5. The metropolis of the city was warned Friday by the operator of its site. It closed around thirty swimming pools on Monday, such as in Nîmes (Alpes-Maritimes), Granville (Manche) or Versailles (Yvelines). The employees have been placed on partial unemployment. She claims that her energy bill has gone from 15 to 100 million euros in a few months.
To compensate for its costs, it would be necessary to triple the entrance fee according to the company, which seems impossible to it. Nor do communities have a solution. “I can’t imagine today that it is the Granville Terre et Mer community that can absorb this additional cost and compensate for this energy price”estimates Stéphane Sorre, president of Granville Terre et Mer.
