The word “author” designates, in the etymological sense, since 1174, not a person who writes, but any person who is the “first cause of a thing […] “. Any writer who publishes books is an author and subject to copyright. Not every author is a writer.
For “the general meeting at which it was decided that all Quebec authors should pay a membership fee to the UNEQ” (The dutyDecember 29), the officials not only failed to mention during the convocation that such a vote would take place, but, in my opinion, this vote is, in its very wording, within the competence and interest of a union of authors of books, and not of the competence and the interest of the union of writers and writers, even if, as authors and authors, these people publish books, and that the right of author interests them.
