Catherine Vautrin, Minister of Labor, Health and Solidarity was the guest of “8:30 am franceinfo” on Thursday March 28, 2024. Terms of the new unemployment insurance reform, duration of compensation, negotiations with social partners , she answered questions from Salhia Brakhlia and Jérôme Chapuis.

“The country is suffering from mass unemployment”

The day after the announcement by the Prime Minister of a new unemployment insurance reform, Catherine Vautrin, the Minister of Labor who will be responsible for carrying out this reform, justifies it and believes that “the country is suffering from mass unemployment”.

The minister believes she has a “totally different vision” of that of Sophie Binet General Secretary of the CGT who, on franceinfo, believes that the announcements of Gabriel Attal “confirm the government’s deep contempt for social actors”. “The subject is unemployment, training, return to employment as quickly as possible”pleads for her part Catherine Vautrin.

A previous agreement that is not “obsolete” but which “does not correspond”

The Prime Minister asked Catherine Vautrin to lead negotiations with the social partners. Partners with whom a first agreement was reached at the end of November on unemployment insurance, this is not “not obsolete” but he “does not correspond to the economic situation”must therefore “renegotiate”declares Catherine Vautrin, Minister of Labor, Health and Solidarity.

Negotiations are still ongoing and are ending on senior unemployment. Social partners “don’t work for nothing” assures the minister who adds: “the question is to say: what you have done must be transposed, we are asking you to renegotiate, hence the discussion of a consultation and a landing in the fall, as the Prime Minister”.

“Long-term conditions” not affected by savings

Faced with the slippage in the public deficit announced on Tuesday, the government is looking for ways to save money also in the sector of “sick leave” says the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire. However, “we do not touch long-term conditions”, explains Catherine Vautrin. “We have a public health challenge of prevention” explains the minister, who believes that “Health spending deserves to be looked at. Looking at health spending does not mean cutting reimbursements”. “I don’t just look at the Excel spreadsheets, I think of each and every French person. I tell them prevention is the best economy,” also adds Catherine Vautrin.
