In the context of abnormally mild temperatures in autumn, the UN is sounding the alarm. Global warming could reach +2.6°C at the end of the century.

Global CO2 emissions linked to the energy sector would peak in 2025 before gradually decreasing. The scenario would be possible thanks to the acceleration of the transition to renewable energies, a consequence of the energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine. But this is far from sufficient to limit the increase in global warming to 1.5°C as provided for in the Paris agreement. “If we don’t want it to rise to 4.5°C, we must quickly implement these new regulations”says Cathy Clerbaux, research director at the CNRS.

Another worrying greenhouse gas: methane, the concentration of which has continued to increase. This material is formed in particular in flooded areas by the decomposition of organic matter in the water. But man is also responsible for it. Thus, a company tracks methane leaks near oil or gas installations, which are often intentional. Methane is responsible for around 30% of global warming.
