UN Security Council ‘demands’ ‘large-scale’ humanitarian aid to Gaza

Following fierce negotiations, the UN Security Council voted on Friday, December 22, a resolution which “requires all parties to authorize and facilitate the immediate, safe and unhindered delivery of large-scale humanitarian assistance” in the Gaza Strip. The text, adopted by 13 votes in favor, none against and two abstentions (United States and Russia), calls for “create the conditions for a lasting cessation of hostilities”, but does not call for an immediate ceasefire, which the Americans did not want.
