(United Nations) “Stop the genocide. Stop sending weapons to Israel,” Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas told the UN on Thursday, saying that Israel “does not deserve” to be a member of the United Nations.
“Stop this crime. Stop it now. Stop killing children and women,” Abbas told the UN General Assembly, nearly a year after the start of Israel’s military campaign in the Gaza Strip in retaliation for Hamas’ unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
“This madness must stop. The whole world is responsible for what our people are going through in Gaza and the West Bank,” added the Palestinian leader, who received loud applause as he took to the podium of the General Assembly.
He lashed out at Israel at length, once again accusing it of “occupation” and “genocide” in Palestine.
“Israel, which refuses to implement the resolutions of the United Nations, does not deserve to be a member of this international organization,” he said, regretting that the United States, an ally of the Hebrew state, had blocked by its right of veto in the Security Council the membership of the Palestinians, who today have the status of observer state.
“The occupation will end, will end, will end,” Mr. Abbas concluded.
