UN General Assembly | A meeting between Biden and Netanyahu planned

(Washington) US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet on Wednesday in New York during the UN General Assembly, the White House announced on Friday.

The two leaders will “discuss a range of bilateral and regional issues, […] of a vision for a more stable, prosperous and integrated region, and compare their approaches on how to counter and deter Iran,” Jake Sullivan, the president’s national security adviser, told reporters.

The Israeli prime minister announced earlier this month that he would visit the United States, but did not mention meeting with American government officials.

The two leaders have not seen each other since the return of Mr. Netanyahu at the head of the Israeli government at the end of 2022. Joe Biden has openly criticized in recent months the judicial reform project carried by a government that he described as the most “extremist” of the country’s history.

In July, the White House indicated that the two leaders would meet on American soil by the end of the year, without giving further details.
