Thanks to smartphones and a portable probe, general practitioners and emergency doctors will be able to perform ultrasound scans.
This is a small revolution for medical imaging. A French start-up, echOpen, has created a portable ultrasound probe, which caregivers can easily carry on their person, such as in their blouse pocket, and connected to a smartphone to observe the results. This object was developed for primary care, intended for general practitioners or private practitioners. The objective is not to replace the standard ultrasound machine, which is more precise.
“The professional must have very good training to understand the images”
This probe will be deployed from 1er quarter 2024 in various pilot services in France. It must be said that its price defies all competition: just under 1,000 euros. But this type of device has limits. “It is a dependent operator, that is to say the professional must have very good training to understand the images”confides Dr. Damien Mascret, doctor and journalist at France Télévisions.
