Football fans expected a lot from this meeting, they were not disappointed. Georgia and the Czech Republic part with a draw (1-1) for this second day of the Euro group stage, Saturday June 22. But the two teams offered a committed meeting, the score of which does not reflect the numerous chances to be credited to Czechia. The Czech Republic and Georgia are respectively in third and fourth place in Group F and remain in the race for qualification for the round of 16.
It didn’t take long before Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili not be tested by the Czech attack, precisely three minutes. Throughout the match, Georgia had difficulty getting out of its camp, facing an ultra-dominant Czech Republic and owed this draw largely to the numerous saves made by the Valencia goalkeeper (3rd, 4th, 9th, 14th, 45th+5, 77th…). Against the court of play, Willy Sagnol’s men took the lead on a penalty taken by Georges Mikautadze, at the very end of the first period, after a handball from Robin Hranac.

It was finally at the hour mark that Patrik Schick, the Czech star of Bayer Leverkusen, allowed his team to return to 1-1. The striker conveniently took a chest ball, and this time Giorgi Mamardashvili was unable to do anything. And while the Czechs threw all their forces into conquering the three points, the Georgians put all their strength into preserving this precious point. The match offered a very last thrill at the end of added time with a three against one and the winning ball for Saba Lobjanidze who missed and hit over the opponent’s goal. PAdditional negative point for the Czech Republic: the exit of Patrik Schick, hit in the right leg, in the 67th minute.
