Thursday March 17, when more than 2 million civilians left Ukraine on the 22th day of conflict against Russia, Ukrainian expatriates decided to return to their country to take up arms.
In Lviv (Ukraine), on Thursday March 17, on the platform of the station, families of Ukrainians embark, not for Europe, but to return home, to Ukraine. Among them, two students, who had left the east of the country ten days earlier to seek more security in the west. “A few days ago, missiles fell not far from here, so we might as well stay at home”says one of them. “There are men who worked abroad and who return to defend the country”notes the train driver.
“I am 65 years old, I am returning to protect my native land”explains a man, who left his wife and children in Poland and plans to join the resistance. “We must fight for Ukraine”, testifies a teacher who had fled to Germany. She returns to Ukraine to set an example for her students. Since the beginning of the conflict, more than 2 million civilians have left Ukraine.
