How do the Ukrainians perceive, Tuesday, March 29, the progress of negotiations with Russia? Journalist Arnaud Comte, special correspondent in kyiv, takes stock.

Do the Ukrainians see in the negotiations with Russia, Tuesday, March 29, a glimmer of hope to get out of the war? “Not really, the Ukrainians, like the international community for that matter, are waiting for facts”reports journalist Arnaud Comte, special envoy to kyiv (Ukraine). “The facts at the moment here around kyiv are incessant shelling, the sound of bombs, the sound of sirens”he continues.

According to Arnaud Comte, Ukrainians “learned to be wary of announcements from Moscow”. “When you discuss it with them, they explain [que] when there are announcements, (…) the opposite generally happens on the ground”, he adds, taking as an example the major strike of a Russian missile which occurred on the morning of Tuesday March 29 in Mykolaiv (Ukraine). The bombardment gutted a regional authority building, causing several casualties. “In short, here, nobody really believes in a ceasefire. The Ukrainians are preparing for a war which they believe will last, for a war which will last several months”concludes the journalist.
